let me repeat: beware of scammers!
getting email scam isn't new to me - if i were to cash in the unclaimed fortune / lottery ticket / business partnerships, i'd be richer than bill gates.. but these days, i've been getting untraceable calls asking me a lot of private information..
for instance today i got a call from a malay asking to speak to my father, but since he was working, i told the person on the line that my father wasn't at home.. den this malay started to say he was from some company (i forgot what he said, but i'm pretty sure the company doesn't exist anyway) and he wanted to trace my father's heritage.. woa.. i never knew there were people interested in my father's lineage.. does it mean i've inherited superior genes? *cough cough* then this guy asked for my father's hp no, which i declined to give, and told him to call back later at 7.. i wonder why he still hasn't called by now? darn.. on hindsight i should niao him and tell him my father has a rather special hp no - 999 =)
i wouldn't be that wary today if not for an embarassing situation a few weeks ago.. i got a call from some other malay asking me to do a simple survey.. it started innocently enough, asking me on what brands of paint i have heard about (ici, dulux etc).. he was talking quite fast so i was only concentrating in giving him answers.. den he said he needed my age so as to know the target audience better.. then from then on the questions got weirder: how i spend my free time (i was like "huh?" but i answered accordingly) and then he asked how many siblings i have and the age of my parents.. on hindsight i should have cursed at him and slammed the phone down, but being a freaking gullible person, i actually answered these questions.. then my father took over the phone, yelled at the person, and whacked the phone down.. only then i realised how stupid i was.. i was sooooo embarassed that day.. felt like a complete idiot =S my parents didn't scold me for it, but without it i felt guilty enough.. i never expected my trust to be abused so freely by some idiot over the phone.. haiz..
after that incident i chanced to hear my mom getting a call from a reputed insurance company asking for her ic no.. it was fishy because we never signed up for the insurance, and the lady (think it was chinese this time round) on the line said that my mom won a prize in a lucky draw.. yeah right lor.. but it's kind of distrurbing knowing that my house address, phone no and parents' names are known to some people out there.. grrrr..
so if there are any calls asking for your address / hp no / ic no / age / whatever personal information, DO NOT GIVE IT OUT! don't be an idiot i was (ok fine.. am) and blurt out all your confidential stuff.. check who is calling first.. and if you are pretty sure the person isn't trustworthy, find a way to niao him / her! they should get a taste of their own medicine.. so go memorize the tel no of your neighbourhood police station, cos in case you're asked for your phone no, you know what to "blurt" out =)
*wages war against phone scammers*
