1 day left..

it has been 10 months since i've been back to school.. it's pretty evident that my brains are rusty when i couldn't answer a friend who asked me, "how many pairs of chromosomes does a human female have?" i was like.. "err.. 23? lemme check.." think mrs foo would have forced me to swallow a stack of shredded human repro notes, with the hope that some of the words diffuse to my brain.. think the diffusion process would be pretty quick lah, considering how cheem the notes are and how empty my brain is =D die die must oil brain these few days.. else when e prof ask me qns during supervision, i can only stare at him blankly =(

this, and the fact that i'll be deprived of ipoh food for about a year, is enough to give me cold feet about going to uk.. the only thing that is pulling me now is the chance of meeting chiobus who have real blonde hair =D ok joking joking i'm relishing the prospect of having.. err.. meaningful cultural exchanges with people from all corners of the globe =)

2 days left..

*frantic packing*

my ma actually got this weighing scale from her school (which measures weights up to 5kg), and just now, we patiently weighed everything and totalled the weight..

which came out to be 30.2kg.. my max allowable check-in luggage weight is 30kg.. darn.. but anw i was quite happy that despite a rice-cooker that i'm lugging there, the total weight came up to only 30.2kg =D

*stuff more things into hand luggage*

fire(men)!

i was engrossed playing computer games when the sudden squeal of sirens disrupted my enemy-butchering activities.. so i looked out of the window and saw firemen rushing into the house diagonally-across of mine.. i was puzzled at that time cos i didn't see any fire from the window i was peering out from.. they rushed to the back of the house, where the kitchen was, and started to open the windows of the kitchen.. only then i saw orange flames at the stove area..

realising i had a digital camera somewhere in the house, i quickly dug it out and aimed it at the fire.. but i wasn't quick enough - these firemen needed less than a minute to put the fire out.. so i could only admire their shuai uniforms:

there's a photographer (not me!) in their midst.. try to spot where he is? =)

today's e first time i saw firemen putting out a blaze in real-life.. instead of the countless reel-life ones.. haha i'm reassured with the fact that some things are still pretty efficient here.. these firemen will put any pizza-delivery boy to shame =D

creating edible stuff #4

since most people know how to cook noodles, i'll save myself the trouble of writing out how to cook this =D

looks nice, right? but taste is something that the eyes can't judge =)

what i thought:
veggie - overcooked
meat - undercooked
the noodles - slightly soggy
soup base - just nice =)

what my ma said:
veggie - "ok wad?"
meat - "the meat's already cooked (cos it's 叉烧).. so there's no such thing as an undercooked 叉烧.." -.-''
noodles - no comment, since i accidently slurped all e noodles
soup base - "er it's a bit salty.."

same bowl of noodles, but totally different interpretations.. now i understand what is meant by "a man's food is another's poison" =D

rain rain come again

the weather has been sooooooo hot for these past few days.. so yesterday's rain was more than welcome, as it finally gave the sun god his well-needed rest =) it drizzled throughout the morning, only abating way past evening..

so for once i had to ramp up the shower's heater to near maximum, as the tap water was pretty cold.. and i could use my blanket when i slept last night.. can't remember when was the last time i used it =)

bad thing is the sun god came back from his short holiday much stronger than ever.. probably too well-rested bah.. sigh.. when will it rain again!?

beware of scammers!

let me repeat: beware of scammers!

getting email scam isn't new to me - if i were to cash in the unclaimed fortune / lottery ticket / business partnerships, i'd be richer than bill gates.. but these days, i've been getting untraceable calls asking me a lot of private information..

for instance today i got a call from a malay asking to speak to my father, but since he was working, i told the person on the line that my father wasn't at home.. den this malay started to say he was from some company (i forgot what he said, but i'm pretty sure the company doesn't exist anyway) and he wanted to trace my father's heritage.. woa.. i never knew there were people interested in my father's lineage.. does it mean i've inherited superior genes? *cough cough* then this guy asked for my father's hp no, which i declined to give, and told him to call back later at 7.. i wonder why he still hasn't called by now? darn.. on hindsight i should niao him and tell him my father has a rather special hp no - 999 =)

i wouldn't be that wary today if not for an embarassing situation a few weeks ago.. i got a call from some other malay asking me to do a simple survey.. it started innocently enough, asking me on what brands of paint i have heard about (ici, dulux etc).. he was talking quite fast so i was only concentrating in giving him answers.. den he said he needed my age so as to know the target audience better.. then from then on the questions got weirder: how i spend my free time (i was like "huh?" but i answered accordingly) and then he asked how many siblings i have and the age of my parents.. on hindsight i should have cursed at him and slammed the phone down, but being a freaking gullible person, i actually answered these questions.. then my father took over the phone, yelled at the person, and whacked the phone down.. only then i realised how stupid i was.. i was sooooo embarassed that day.. felt like a complete idiot =S my parents didn't scold me for it, but without it i felt guilty enough.. i never expected my trust to be abused so freely by some idiot over the phone.. haiz..

after that incident i chanced to hear my mom getting a call from a reputed insurance company asking for her ic no.. it was fishy because we never signed up for the insurance, and the lady (think it was chinese this time round) on the line said that my mom won a prize in a lucky draw.. yeah right lor.. but it's kind of distrurbing knowing that my house address, phone no and parents' names are known to some people out there.. grrrr..

so if there are any calls asking for your address / hp no / ic no / age / whatever personal information, DO NOT GIVE IT OUT! don't be an idiot i was (ok fine.. am) and blurt out all your confidential stuff.. check who is calling first.. and if you are pretty sure the person isn't trustworthy, find a way to niao him / her! they should get a taste of their own medicine.. so go memorize the tel no of your neighbourhood police station, cos in case you're asked for your phone no, you know what to "blurt" out =)

*wages war against phone scammers*

happy birthday msia! #2

i think malaysia's the only nation with 2 birthdays.. although today marks the 42nd anniversary of the formation of malaysia, it's not celebrated as wide-scale as the 48th birthday of malaya..

apparently, as a nation, being older is better.. which is the exact opposite of girls =p

another (finished) jdrama series

heh repeated the feat of finishing another jap series - 'koi ni ochitara' (of length 8:45:29) - in two days.. i found out that chiong-ing movies isn't that tiring after all, considering that the story is nice and interesting.. and of course the inclusion of a lot of chio actresses in that series merely speeds up the process *wipes bleeding nose* =p

job observations #3

usually, i always bemoan the fact that malaysian tv consists primarily of news programmes and endless reruns of past movies (the oldest being black-and-white movies by the late p. ramlee, who is the pioneer of malaysian filmography).. but yesterday, while engaging in my habitual channel-flipping, i bumped into 'notting hill' (starring julia roberts and hugh grant).. i faintly remember watching it a number of years ago, but it didn't prevent me from re-watching it..

i have to admit that i found julia roberts super chio on that movie =) especially when she smiles - i bet it can electrify any testosterone-charged heart - so i was kind of thankful that i came out alive after the movie.. she has never struck me as being chio before (even though i've watched the movie before).. think i've found conclusive proof that elevated androgynous hormones could affect vision =p

so a checklist of stuff that i have to do now:
1. stay in a place with blue walls
2. get a job in a bookstore selling travel books
3. stock it with books on turkey
4. and then wait patiently for her to turn up.. =)

oh and it wouldn't hurt to acquire a british accent, grow some blond hair, get contact lenses and remove some freckles, so i can give hugh grant some competition right? =)

am starting to like being a couch potato =p

nifty little program..

i have just downloaded PSPad today - in essence, it's a programmers' nifty swiss army knife.. this program simplifies the writing of code in not only one single language, but in 20+ languages - such as C++, Visual Basic, HTML, Pascal, Perl and many others.. i'm really amazed by the ingenuity of this program.. whoa =)

this program is cool in the sense that it can be supplemented with plugins to extend its already impressive functions.. i've downloaded an english dictionary plugin, and it's able to correct typos a la Microsoft Word.. but considering this program (the installer + the zipped dictionary, to be specific) didn't even breach 10 megs (although it still took me 3 days to complete the download on dialup =S).. makes me even more in awe of the czech programmer who wrote this.. you rock, man!

the only few downsides of it is that it cannot run the programs you've written (unless you download plugins, or for instance like HTML you can just save the code and open in IE to view it) and that there is no language reference for the programming languages (i think it can be downloaded in the form of a plugin too, but i'm not sure though), which is a problem to me, as i'm a newbie =p

but on the whole, i'd recommend this program (which is basically what i'm doing now) to those interested in writing programs and don't want to spend money buying legal *cough cough* *chokes* *gags* software (oh, it's freeware, if you're wondering) =)

jdrama fever =)

i broke another record of mine yesterday.. i managed to finish a jap drama series - 'yamato nadeshiko' (i don't know how to type the jap name of it cos i dunno jap) - of total length 8:40:59 in 2 days *shows bloodshot eyes*.. my previous record was 3 days =p

surprisingly, i wasn't ticked off for being in front of my computer far too long.. guess my parents are getting more relaxed about such 'rules'.. maybe they think i'm getting more mature *cough cough* already =)
