been busy with tons of stuff even though it's cny =(

it's only the start of my second academic week but i really feel lethargic now.. i have alternate really free days with really busy days.. for instance for tue and today, my day ends at 10pm; while on wed and tmr, i have only like a lect and a sup.. but during free days, although i persistently tell myself to have an early night, i tend to watch too much anime, so i get quite tired after the marathon naruto sessions too..

k hafta go for badminton now, will blog more when i'm free AND i can think of interesting stuff to write.. think this post is pretty bouliao haha =)

after last wednesday's episode of prolonged mugging, i've descended into a period of prolonged - too long, in fact - playing, in the form of watching naruto..

i watched a total of 18 episodes yesterday (one ep = roughly 20 mins).. today, cos there's no cells pract in the first week, i finished another 13 eps from 1130am to 345pm without any break in between..

i'm now at episode 41, and i've watched all of them within one week of watching the first episode.. think i should start doing work before my eyes burn out due to radiation from the computer screen =)

even during term time, i'm still able to accumulate 3 gigs of anime dls within 11 hrs..

am currently addicted to naruto, was able to finish 10 eps in two SCHOOLDAYS.. stopped at 10 not bcos i dun have time, but cos i dun have eps 11 and onwards.. but now after the 3 gig dl i have eps 11 all the way to 30 =P yayness!

before coming to camb, wad i thought abt angmors in camb were that they were pretty laid-back and generally not kiasu.. results were no way close to the importance of a pint of ____(insert name of any alcholic drink here)___ to them (k lar to be fair not everyone drinks, and not many people get drunk anw)..

but after one mock test, i'm forced to reconsider the impressions i have of them.

not muggy? look at my dos meeting two posts ago.

not kiasu? during the chem supervision i had just now, my supervisor asked me whether i knew how many marks i got for chem.. i said i didn't, cos i din noe our marked scripts were in our pigeon holes. 5 mins later, my supervision partner trotted in and asked me, "jin, didn't u get (bleep) marks for your chemistry mock test?" seeing me gape at him, he explained, "oh, i peeked at your pigeon hole..."

well, if not for me feeling pretty high now cos i scored pretty well for my chem mocks, he'd have learnt some choice singlish swear words by now..

1. wun get scary email from supervisor asking why u never hand up work
2. wun have to 违背良心 and say that u forgot to hand up instead of saying u thought deadline was tomorrow and u haven't even started on it
   
3. dun need to get stressed abt the big load of hw u need to hand up within 18 hrs
   
4. can eat dinner in peace
5. dun need to do 6 hrs of chem homework in one stretch (WARNING: DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME)
   
6. dun need to will the clock hands to slow down so that u can sleep earlier
   
7. hand won't hurt so much from rapid scribbling
8. brain won't be 欺负-ed into thinking abt cheem concepts when all it wants is to rest on a soft pillow
   
9. can sleep earlier at 12am instead of 4am
10. can wake up earlier and not pon lecture

that's why i've the honour of being the first msian/sporean nat sci to be the first lect-ponner in the new term (or even new year =P)

after my last two papers - cells and e&b - i was scheduled to see my DoS (director of studies) in order to discuss abt academic stuff and get my supervision reports.. my hand was still hurting from the essay chionging (3 essays in 1 h 45 mins leh! siao siao) when i met him. excerpt:

dos: how long did you study for the mock tests?
me: about a week.. two days for each subject roughly..
dos: really?
me: yeah, i spent most of my holidays playing, cos i din feel like studying..
dos: one week's rather on the low end..
me: (astonished) *raise eyebrows*
dos: some studied for three weeks, and said that they didn't study enough for it..

i can imagine me passing my mock tests with "flying colours", red especially - i'll have enough red ink on my papers to dye river cam red..

sigh i feel soooo demoralized midway of the collections (aka mock tests).. had chem and quantitative biology (aka maths for biologists) today.. chem was okay, but i have to admit that my maths wasn't as good as it used to be =(

i hate the overwhelming importance placed on differential equations.. nearly every other equation we see in qb would involve a variant of dy/dx.. and on top of that, we're supposed to stick BIOLOGICAL MEANING to the various symbols we use to write our equation.. come on lah, why can't i think of my "beta" as a meaningless symbol - must i always state that it's the "rate of growth"?!

and i so totally don't know how to apply the correct equations in physiological modelling.. sighh =(

nvm let's hope tmr's cells and e&b will be better..

i give up my original aim of reading everything at least twice.. i'd count myself lucky if i can even FINISH my mugging =(

i have no idea why but.. the lights in my toilet decided to take a permanent break from illuminating the four corners of my toilet =(

i happened to find that out yesterday when i wanted to take my bath at 2am =( but thankfully it wasn't pitch black in my toilet - i could still get a sliver of light trickling into my toilet when i open the usually-shut windows in the toilet (it faces st john's cripps court though, so it's really not my fault in causing any blindness or psychological trauma when people glance in the direction of my toilet when i'm inside)..

i had three choices then: one, to bathe in the toilet two floors below; two, to bathe in the dark; or lastly, keep my 男人味 as strong as ever.. i chose to put my vitamin A-primed eyes to the test, since i could neither really stand my own 男人味 nor take the effort to climb two flights of stairs..

well, as an afterthought, bathing wasn't as problematic as pissing in the dark - your aim gets really lousy when you can barely see outline of the toilet bowl, and also when you have to desperately refine your aim using sound (i dread the sound of water hitting porcelain) instead of sight..

being men - the protector of nations (or city-states) - we have the obligation to protect the fairer sex.. i received my mobilisation order at 1600 GMT, and as always, one must always report back to one's superiors..

when i first moved into camb, i've never expected having a room just beside river cam can be so fun.. today wasn't the first time i saw a horde of ducks overrunning my college lawns though - sometimes i see them just after classes too - but it's the first time i actually bothered bringing my camera down and dabbling in some night photography =) fyi i din use flash to take the pic cos i din wan to scare them, so i used max exposure and the slowest lens speed..

their quacks can get really loud at times - perhaps the louder ones are associated with mating? =D

and on a side note, i sometimes hear birds chirping about 4am (just to clarify: nope i'm not mugging, i was watching anime - full metal alchemist, to be exact =P).. i wonder why..

i initially thot the guy who posted this up as a brilliant genius.. until a google search revealed the same joke on other websites.. chey.. so that's why i shamelessly plagiarize without acknowledging the source, cos i dunno who came out with it first =)

according to the draft test timetable, i have tests at 9am and 2pm on both the 17th and 18th jan.. so after constantly reminding myself that i have 4 subjects to study and homework to complete, i finally started studying seriously.. just now =)

i started studying chem.. and i encountered this equation saying that the natural frequency of a spring-mass system is proportional to the square root of the force constant divided by the mass.. so i enthusiastically tried to prove it using my physics..

and to my aghast, i discovered i forgot all my SHM equations, and even had trouble recalling simple stuff like F = -kx (i googled that out, btw) =S

i had to seek help from a fren studying physics in NUS (who's on the dean's list O.o) via msn.. these equations came out in rapid succession:

F = -kx = ma
a = -(m/k) x = -(omega^2) x
omega^2 = m/k

.. and so on.. i even had to clarify wad angular frequency was.. am starting to think that my getting an A in 'A' lev physics is indeed a fluke..

sigh.. it's rather depressing when i forget stuff i should know =(

went out with senior to buy stuff at a chinese supermarket called cho mee.. it was drizzling, so it was pretty sucky weather =(

the trip was pretty fruitful - i bought a gigantic bottle of lee kum kee brand oyster sauce (for 2 pounds) and soy sauce (much cheaper than prices in sains!), and i saw stuff that i have never seen for ages.. stuff like adabi brand mixes, kangkong, taupok etc.. it made me reminisce about ipoh food, which i can't eat for maybe another 6 months =(

my jeans were drenched cos i was cycling in the rain.. so i thought of hanging it over the heater for it to dry faster.. i forgot all abt it, and went to eat laksa at my senior's room (that's why we went to the chinese supermarket), and came back abt 10pm..

once i stepped into my room i smelt a chao-ta odour..

knn!!!!! the culprit's in the background, btw..

the original colour of the jeans was DARK blue.. not only i have a chao-ta patch on my jeans, the surrounding region is discoloured as well.. no one will believe me if i told them i bought this last year.. they'd think i inherited it from my grandpa or sth!
