haih no motivation to work at all, and it's not like i work a lot in the first place. lectures are getting rather cheem, and besides supervision work i can't be bothered to put in extra research into my notes.

the most well-known compound in airbags (but not necessarily used widely nowadays) is sodium azide, which reacts in the following reaction:

2 NaN_3(s) --> 2 Na_(s) + 3 N_2(g)

the nitrogen gas is what makes the airbag expand.. but is that the entire story?

apparently not. according to my chemistry supervisor, he said that pple who had their faces cushioned by these airbags often have sodium metal burns on their faces - so why do manufacturers still use sodium azide?

actually, the sodium is a safety measure in itself - think about it, what prevents your head from bouncing off the airbag and crushing the back of your head on the headrest? the sodium metal produced by the reaction actually burn small holes in the airbag, so when your face hits the airbag, the air escapes and thus deflates the bag.. it's better to have sodium burns on your face than splattering your own brain juice over your headrest, isn't it? =)

phishing (fish´ing) (n.) The act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft.

i'm sure most of you had received false emails claiming that you've won a lottery, or maybe someone needs your help in moving some money out of nigeria, but what i got today was.. shocking.

i'm not at all concerned about the contents of the letter, i'm just wondering how they knew my address. sinister eh..

for those who can't see the fine print, apparently i won 0.8 mil euros in a spanish lottery (i have to say that they're getting more and more creative).. and in order to send me my winnings, they need my bank acct number, sort code and other details.

anw, none of these searches beat one that i saw a couple of months earlier.. something like "xxx amsterdam" - try it, u might find my blog nestled amongst other more *cough* interesting *cough* stuff.. u'll be redirected to my december 2005 page hahahaa =D
